Rack Myths Busted
You need heavy duty, swivel casters!
Do you really need to specify “Heavy Duty” casters? Do rack casters need to swivel?
Think about it.
- Casters make it easy to transport the rack, once it is unpacked, especially if the rack packaging and pallet feet are removed at the loading dock. Download our Installation Instructions for details
- Casters can also be useful when fitting equipment, and to assist when lining up racks for baying.
but for most applications, once a rack is installed, the cabling usually prevents it from being moved, and the rack is best installed on levelling feet and/or bolted to the floor.
For these reasons, we ship most of our racks with our innovative, low profile casters fitted. Our standard casters can support a fully loaded rack (over 800kg if you can fit that much equipment!) and, because of their low profile, make it possible to wheel a 42RU rack through a standard doorway.
Steering is easy – just skid the caster – and once in position, lower the levelling feet.
The downside of specifying heavy duty swivel casters, as offered by other manufacturers, is that they take up valuable rack space. For example, a rack fitted with conventional casters must usually be only 39RU high if you want to roll it through a standard door opening.

So, why waste up to 3RU of your valuable rack space? Feel free to specify caster if you need them, and, if your rack has to pass through a standard doorway on its way to its final destination, you can confidently specify a 42RU rack height as well. |
