Shelves are a lot stronger than you think!

What loads can you really apply to fixed shelves?

During testing of rack load capacity, we loaded a standard fixed shelf with 7 x 24kg concrete pavers, i.e. a load of 168kg. No sign of distortion, so we decided to change our specification for distributed load to 110kg/ shelf.

No doubt, we could have put more on (if there had been room) but seriously, folks, can you think of any item you would reasonably want to store on a 19” rack shelf that could possibly weigh this much?

PS: We rate our sliding shelves to the maximum specified by the German slide manufacturer (30kg) – it would be interesting to see what they would really carry!
